About Us
Opening in Fall 2026, Thomas More Classical School is a Christian K–6 classical academy in Anchorage, Alaska.
The School is a Hillsdale-supported founding effort, selected after a highly competitive application process. In 2023, a small group of Alaskans initiated discussions with Hillsdale College’s K–12 Education Office about bringing the Hillsdale American classical curriculum to Anchorage. After thoroughly evaluating the curriculum and program guide, the group submitted a business plan and application to Hillsdale, ultimately being invited to receive Hillsdale support with startup counsel and training from the K–12 Education Office. Thomas More intends to license Hillsdale’s K–12 Curriculum and offer an American classical and Christian education to families in Anchorage, Alaska.
What began with one or two families has since grown into a larger team of parents, educators, and entrepreneurs, united in their commitment to providing a better educational option in Anchorage. Embracing the time-tested principles of classical education over post-modern fads, intellectual rigor over complacency, and Christian values over secularization, Thomas More strives to be the preferred school for families in Anchorage who appreciate education’s true purpose. By cultivating the gifts and charisms of each student and fostering a culture of excellence and faith, Thomas More will stand out as a beacon of hope and quality in Anchorage’s educational landscape.
We strive to cultivate our students into future leaders of character, guiding them in their journey to discover their God-given charisms, form their faith, and develop their potential to do great things for God and others.
What Makes Us More
We form future saints.
Formation embodies our dedication to holistic education. Throughout their education, our students will have had authentic encounters with Christ, developing a deep and personal relationship with Him. They will have been nurtured in a community that prioritizes spiritual accountability, encouraging them to live out their faith with integrity and consistency. These experiences will shape them into individuals of high moral character, grounded in virtues such as piety, charity, and humility. By forming future saints, we will prepare our students to navigate the complexities of the modern world with a strong moral compass and a heart oriented toward God.
We inspire children to discover their own charisms.
Discovery is at the heart of our educational philosophy. We believe that every child possesses unique gifts and talents, or charisms, bestowed upon them by God. Our role as educators is to create an environment that nurtures these gifts and inspires children to explore their potential. Through a rich and varied curriculum, we will encourage curiosity, inspire wonder, foster analytical thinking, and instill a love for learning. We will support our students in discovering their passions and developing their God-given abilities.
We find joy in serving God and others.
Service is integral to our community, and we approach it with joy. Joyful Service means finding fulfillment and happiness in acts of kindness and service to others. Whether through community service projects, helping a neighbor, or contributing to the well-being of our school community, we will teach our students the importance of serving with a joyful heart. This value fosters a sense of purpose and connectedness, reminding us that we are all part of a larger community and that our actions can positively impact the world around us.
We practice charity and live by the Golden Rule.
Charity is God’s greatest gift and the highest virtue. We seek to instill in our students a spirit of generosity and humility, encouraging them to demonstrate love in action. Charity is the foundation of our community, fostering empathy and care that reach beyond ourselves. We will also practice the Golden Rule, encouraging our students to embrace kindness in their daily lives, building a supportive and compassionate environment.
